The KEMBA CARE CREW, headed up by Tonya Tyree at the Salem branch, is always looking for new and creative ways to help those in need in our community! For the month of January, they have been raising awareness for homebound seniors in our community. These seniors face tough decisions during the winter month when having to choose between heat and food. The Local Office of Aging (LOA) is collecting canned soup and crakcers for area seniors as part of its annual "Soup For Seniors" collection. They work closely with AARP to make this happen and this year's goal is to bring in 30,000 cans of soup to be delivered to more than 3,000 local residents. Through grassroots effforts, KEMBA has been able to donate 81cans of soup and 14 boxes of crackers to their cause! Great job to the KEMBA CARE CREW for making a difference!
KEMBA staff and members have been working hard to help out this year's Community Christmas Store! The Community Christmas Store provides families in need with everything from food, clothing, toys, and household goods from its volunteer staffed distribution store. This year's store will be located at the former building of Christian Life International Church at 4335 West Main in Salem. Families actually get to visit the store and choose the items they feel they need.
Through a variety of fundraising, KEMBA will be donating over $200 in cash, a closet full of canned goods, 17 new bikes, and 3 new scooters! Plus, several of the staff are volunteering their time to help run this year's store. These donations will go along way towards making this year's Community Christmas Store a success! KEMBA is proud of it's staff's devotion to this event and thanks all the members that lent a helping hand this year!
